By planning these in advance, you can have great family time together without breaking the bank. Planning family days out and keeping the kids amused, we know from experience, can be a chore!
While we are all adults here and know that planning and organisation are the only way to avoid disasters, it’s hard to buck the anti-planning trend when we need something to keep the kids occupied. This can make you more susceptible to the pressure of keeping the kids amused. As well as the obvious potential for sunburn and tired legs, there are other things to consider for a successful family day out.
We’ve put together a guide for some of the best family fun to be had in and around Chichester.
Chichester Lakeside Holiday Park – Onsite Entertainment
This is a rather obvious one to start with but Chichester Lakeside Holiday Park offers a range of fun and entertainment for the children in the park. They have a team of talented entertainers and offer lots of different activities for children of all ages! There is swimming pool open from March to October, with a separate paddling pool for the smaller children and a fun splash zone!
There are craft sessions for all ages, things like crafty pottery and Bear mountain to build your own bear! For children 14 and under there is the Crazy Club and an extensive children’s entertainment programme including discos and children’s entertainers that runs both day and evening with events offered daily from March – October.
There are go carts to hire for the whole family and Segway experiences too. All on site! Just grab an entrainment pass from the friendly reception team. (Prices vary).
Things to See and Do for the family
South Downs Planetarium & Science Centre
South Downs Planetarium is a place where all the family can enjoy and experience the magic that is the night sky. It’s suitable for all the family, as long as the kids are age 6 and up. Not only do you see the stars with their amazing projector with nearly 4500 stars, but also other celestial objects projected onto the dome above your head.
You’ll also be able to sit in comfort and enjoy a live commentary as an expert professional astronomer guides you during the stunning show. Check out their website for times and prices. The Planetarium and science centre is open all year round.
Chichester Harbour
In this busy world, one of the best ways to enjoy a lazy weekend is by taking a boat trip from Chichester Harbour. This is a picturesque area, which provides plenty of space for walking and visiting local attractions. Chichester Harbour is a conserved area, and it’s a place of natural beauty. There are lots of things to do both on and off the water.
Off the water, there are lots to do on foot, where they offer guided walks and activities, and also there are cycling routes for you to explore. On the water, you can try paddle boarding or take a boat trip on either a solar powered boat or catamaran.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, then Kingley Vale is the place to visit. There are so many things to see and do here, and it’s perfect for a family day out. With over 300 acres of beautiful countryside and forests to explore, there is something for everyone.
From wonderful walks to family fun days, great areas for picnics, or playing hide and seek. There is something for everyone at Kingley Vale.
If you’re happy to go a little further afield to explore, there are still some amazing family things to a very short distance away. Below are some ideas you might find fun for the family.
Wildforest Falls Adventure Golf
Wildforest Forest Falls Adventure Golf is an 18-hole adventure golf course, it’s inside Hotham Park in Bognor Regis, near the town centre and the Butlins. It’s aptly named, as there are life-size bears and wolves, stags and even wild boars. As it’s Adventure Golf, you can expect some challenging obstacles, and it’s great for a healthy competition between family and friends.
Outside of summer, they also offer “glow golf” indoors. There is a kiosk on site offering cold drinks, snacks, ice cream, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. It’s fun for all ages, and they offer a range of attractive family passes that make it affordable.
A Day At The Seaside
Its’ a classic day out for young and old alike, and we are based only a few minutes from some truly lovely seaside fun. West Sussex is blessed with some of the best beaches in Britain. Here’ some more details of the beaches close by and what to expect.
West Wittering
This is a blue flag beach known for its miles of sand and dunes, a perfect place to go for a family day out and build sand castles and memories. West Wittering Beach is unique almost as it is one of the few sandy beaches in Sussex. It’s a blue flag beach, which means it has a high quality of water, and it’s perfect for swimming and watersports. The beach offers wonderful views of the South Downs and Chichester Harbour. You can even take a walk to East Head. With a mix of sand dunes and mowed grass close to the beach area, it’s perfect for picnics. The area is filled with natural wildlife and birds, and has become an internationally recognised location.
Bracklesham Bay
Here is much quieter, and like many beaches on the South Coast, is mainly shingle, but it’s a haven for finding fossils! Plus, there are lots of watersport activities.
Bognor Regis
Commonly known as just “Bognor” actually has two beaches. To the east entrance of the Pier is East Beach, which is Bognor Regis’ most popular beach it’s very close to the town centre. Additionally, there is a long promenade to walk along and enjoy with the usual array of toilets, seating and concession stands.
Alternatively, to the west of the Bognor Regis West Beach. Less popular with tourists and visitors. It often has a calmer wind and offers great views over the sea. Both beaches are shingles, as is the case in West Sussex. But they still make for a fun family day out.
Pagham
Just sightly along from Bognor Regis is Pagham Beach, which is along the coast to the west. It is a large single beach with no break waters. Pagham nature reserve is very close by and offers delightful walks around Pagham Harbour and the nature reserve itself. One of the coolest features is a retro Amusement arcade. A quirky place filled with old one armed bandits. There’s also a nice beach shop and Beach Cafe.

Tangmere Military Aviation Museum
The Tangmere Military Aviation Museum is a volunteer-run museum based at Tangmere Airfield and is located near Chichester. The museum is housed in many World War II buildings from the former RAF Tangmere. It is one of the best-preserved World War II airfields in the UK. The museum is open every day between February 1st and November 30th.
On the site of the wartime airfield. It features restored 1940s buildings, and is a former Royal Air Force station. Fascinatingly, it played a key role during the Battle of Britain. It’s a great museum with many full-size aircraft, including Bristol Blenheim, Gloster Gladiator, Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, Hawker Typhoon and more. Free guided tours run twice daily. And don’t forget a visit to the Cock-pit cafe!
Flip Out – Chichester Trampoline Park
Flip Out Chichester is a trampoline park in Chichester. It is a popular attraction for both children and adults. With many activities available, including wall running and dodgeball. There are also Ninja assault courses. Additionally, there is also a section reserved for younger children for soft play.
This is a trampoline park, so footwear rules are in place. Though you can buy trampolining socks on the day. They even do bunch fitness classes! Flip Out Chichester is open to all ages, and there are various classes available to participants. It can get busy, so it is recommended to book in advance and get there in ample time to use their parking area.
Chichester Gate Leisure Park
Located in the centre of Chichester, Chichester Gate Leisure Park is a great facility for the whole family. The Leisure Park has a 15 screen cinema, a bowling alley, a soft play area and several restaurants. This is the leisure centre area for Chichester, with lots of activities and food in one area. Below are some of the main features. Enjoy free onsite parking, so spend as much time as you want!
Air Arena – Trampoline Park
Air Arena Chichester is a great trampoline park with all the latest and greatest trampolines on offer to bounce around on. Located in Chichester and open 5 days per week, the park is fantastic for kids and adults alike.
There are over 60 interconnected trampolines for you to jump on, meaning you will never have to wait for your turn to jump. The park also offers other fantastic facilities, including a basketball hoop, foam pits, slam dunk and more.
TenPin Chichester – Bowling Alley
TenPin Chichester is a great bowling alley. With 18 bowling lanes, special deals and events, this is a family friendly bowling centre. It’s disabled access friendly, serves a range of food and drink, and you can also play on the arcades, challenge other family members to air hockey or have a game or two on the pool tables. There’s also a fully licensed bar on site.
Cineworld Chichester
Perfect for evening entertainment or for a day out when the weather isn’t great. Who doesn’t enjoy going to the cinema? Cineworld is Chichester’s premier digital cinema, and they serve the best of the Hollywood Blockbusters and also offer some smaller independent releases. They offer 2D films, 3D films, and also have an IMAX screen.
The seats are large and comfortable, projection is brilliant, and they also use the Prestigious Dolby Atmos sound system to put an immersive cinematic experience. Eating out
Food and beverages in Chichester Gate are the usual leisure park fare that will appeal to the family on a day or evening out treat! They include:
